Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi chaired a five-hour review meeting with the Municipal Corporation Engineering Wing, fixed deadlines for pending development projects, ordered strict accountability for delays, reviewed infrastructure works across the city and directed time-bound execution to ensure transparent governance and faster civic development.
The high-level meeting was attended by Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, Sub-Divisional Engineers and Junior Engineers representing all engineering wings of the Municipal Corporation. During the extensive review, the Mayor conducted a comprehensive sector-wise and ward-wise assessment of ongoing works, sanctioned projects, pending tenders, projects awaiting allotment and key infrastructure initiatives being undertaken across Chandigarh.
In a first-of-its-kind review, Mayor Saurabh Joshi initiated a detailed Action Taken Report review of every resolution and estimate approved by the General House and the Finance and Contract Committee. He sought project-wise updates on every approved agenda and took serious note of development works where implementation had been delayed despite receiving administrative approval.
Expressing concern over avoidable delays in project execution, the Mayor directed the concerned officers to explain the reasons behind every pending project. He categorically stated that unnecessary delays in implementing approved development works would not be tolerated. While assuring that genuine procedural issues would be resolved on priority, he made it clear that accountability would be fixed wherever delays were found to be unjustified.
To ensure time-bound implementation, Mayor Saurabh Joshi fixed specific target dates for the commencement of all pending works awaiting tendering or allotment. He instructed the Engineering Wing to complete all procedural formalities within the prescribed timelines and emphasized that every sanctioned project must now move swiftly from approval to execution so that citizens receive the intended benefits without unnecessary delay.
The Mayor also conducted a detailed review of roads, storm-water drainage systems, water supply networks, sewerage infrastructure, public facilities, parks, markets, community centres and other engineering works. Stressing that infrastructure development remains the Municipal Corporation's highest priority, he directed all engineers to expedite project execution while maintaining the highest standards of quality, transparency and technical excellence.
During the meeting, Mayor Saurabh Joshi instructed all engineering officers to submit, within one week, a comprehensive progress report covering every estimate approved by the General House and the Finance and Contract Committee, every allotted work and every project currently under execution. He informed the officers that another review meeting would be convened shortly to assess compliance with the prescribed targets, evaluate project progress and identify responsibility wherever unjustified delays are detected.
The Mayor further directed officers to strengthen coordination among all engineering wings, conduct regular field inspections and proactively remove bottlenecks affecting project implementation. He emphasized that continuous monitoring, timely decision-making and effective coordination are essential to ensure that development projects are completed within the stipulated timelines.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparent, accountable and citizen-centric governance, Mayor Saurabh Joshi stated that every decision taken by the General House and the Finance and Contract Committee reflects the aspirations of the people of Chandigarh and must be implemented in both letter and spirit. He asserted that the Municipal Corporation would continue to closely monitor every development project to ensure visible progress on the ground while delivering modern, efficient and sustainable civic infrastructure across the city.
Concluding the review, the Mayor declared that the era of files remaining pending has come to an end and that the Municipal Corporation is now focused on speedy execution, strict accountability and visible development. He emphasized that every approved project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe, reinforcing the administration's commitment to faster infrastructure delivery and improved public services for the residents of Chandigarh.
